According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a multi-vehicle motor vehicle accident with serious personal injury which occurred on State Route 4 just north of Flat Rock Road in the Town of Fort Ann.
At this time, it appears that a 2014 Nissan driven by Emma J. McCloskey, 21, of Liverpool, New York was southbound on State Route 4 when she crossed over into the northbound lane and struck a northbound 2016 Kenworth tractor trailer driven by Doug J. Stewart, 54, of Ontario, Canada. A third vehicle, a Honda Accord driven by Gabriel J. Lambert, 21, of Georgia, Vermont was also southbound and following behind McCloskey’s vehicle and was unable to avoid striking it.
McCloskey was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated. She was transported by ambulance to a landing zone at the Harris Airport on State Route 149 and flown by helicopter to the Albany Medical Center with apparent serious lower leg injuries. Stuart and Lambert were both uninjured.
Investigators are looking into why McCloskey veered into the northbound lane and the investigation is continuing. A portion of State Route 4 was closed to traffic until just after 6 pm while the scene was being cleared. There was also a fuel spill after at least one of the tractor trailer fuel tanks ruptured during the crash.
