According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested, Ronald J. Fitzgerald, 79 of Fort Ann for driving while intoxicated, and harassment in the second degree. Deputies were called to the Fitzgerald residence for a possible domestic dispute. While responding to the residence, a Deputy observed Fitzgerald operating a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. Further, the Deputy observed a traffic violation and a traffic stop was made.
During the interview of Fitzgerald it was determined that he had consumed alcohol prior to operating the vehicle. Fitzgerald failed several field sobriety tests and was arrested. It was also found that the vehicle that Fitzgerald was operating was under suspension, and that Fitzgerald did not possess a valid drivers license. Fitzgerald was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Fort Edward for processing where he tested a .11% BAC. Deputies who were on the scene of the original complaint, determined that Fitzgerald had been physical with a female he is familiar with. Fitzgerald was also charged with harassment in the second degree and held at the Washington County Jail for arraignment. The case was handled by Deputies Paul Trottier and Chris Murray.
