According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff's Office was contacted by Fort Ann School Officials at 7:56 A.M. this morning (April 10, 2018) after a vague written threat was discovered in the school.
The Sheriff's Office responded with multiple resources and found that staff and students had been temporarily evacuated from the school by school staff and were safe. The school was placed into lockdown as sheriff's deputies worked closely with school officials to conduct a full sweep of the school as a precaution. No credible threats were found and students were then allowed back into the school to continue with normal school activities.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Sheriff's Office continued to have a presence at the school throughout the remainder of the day and parents should expect to see deputies routinely in and around the school in the near future.
